A new guide wants to ensure online safety and well-being for young people online

The Connected Kids Guide, provided by the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC) and the HEROES project, is a new resource designed to help parents, caregivers, educators, and anyone responsible for children navigate the complexities of online safety.

The guide is aimed at addressing the growing challenges that young people face in the digital world, such as online abuse, sexual harassment, grooming, and exploitation. It offers practical advice on how to foster open discussions about online safety and sensitive topics and helps recognize signs of online abuse and the steps to take if children encounter harmful situations online.

The chapters include:

  • Supporting children to be safe and happy online

  • Talking with young people about internet use

  • Recognising signs of online abuse

  • Key online safety messages to share with children
